Terriers are the most typically British breed of dog: no other country has comparable game sporting dogs. In this comprehensive history of terriers, Brian Plummer starts by looking for the reasons why this should be so. His researches take him back to the middle ages, to the earlier sporting writers, and he finds mastiffs, hounds, bassets, all variously described as contributing to the emergent terrier type." "There are upwards of twenty terrier types described in this book.....  Each type is related to its locality, and the terrain and work for which it was originally bred." (from the jacket).  The accounts are brought up to modern times and issues. Truly a good read for anyone attracted to terriers.  246 pages. This was a library copy, stamped: "Withdrawn from Tameside Public Libraries" inside cover and "Tameside Public Libraries" on title page. Flyleaf has been removed. Jacket has dark mark at top otherwise excellent condition. Only reason this is not considered excellent condtion is library stamps, still and very good copy and intersting for the terrier lover.
